Arizona, think of the kids! THE KIDS!

Arizona is in the news again......and yes, your resident Arizona Updater Write Guy is going to inform you on what it is they have cooking up in the desert!

How many of you out there in cyber land were born from parents who wore/wear the illegal status label in the United States of America?  How many of you are today, citizens, due to the simple fact that you were born in the U.S.?  Well if Arizona gets their new law passed many of you naturalized citizens would have been considered illegal today. 
Just to give everyone some insight on the 14th Amendment which grants citizenship to, "all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."  Pretty self explanatory if you ask me.  If you are born in the U.S then you are a citizen. SIMPLE!


Arizona state Senator Russell Pearce argues the fact that the 14th Amendment's true intent was to grant citizenship to freed U.S. slaves, and that it was never meant to apply to the children of foreigners.  However, the argument stands that the Amendment was also originally passed to take into consideration the children of Chinese immigrants in California (1800's many Chinese immigrants came to the U.S. in search of jobs and the Gold Rush era) as well as children of gypsies.  I guess my parents found a loop-hole, if that's what they want to call it.


Pearce will present the bill today, January 5 in Washington D.C. which has the support of many other states such as Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Utah.

Each of the aforementioned states have said they want to introduce similar bills sometime this year. 

It's hard not to be bias when it comes to stories like this one.  I myself am a citizen of this country because of the 14th Amendment.  One thing I do know for sure though, this country was not founded on the shoulders of individuals who thunk the way Arizona's Senator does, nor does punishing children seem like the right answer to our immigration problems.

I would love to hear your opinion on this new bill.  Maybe some of you think this is fair, so I would love to hear why?
