Some of you may or may not have heard about the uproar in Philadelphia over a Teacher's (Natalie Munroe) personal blog.
Quick Facts:
Natalie Munroe created (August of 09') her own personal blog for family and friends. In the blog she ranted about her students saying they were, "disengaged, lazy whiners," and some. Students found out about the blog, tell administrators, teacher gets put on paid suspension. Natalie never used her full name, names of students, or the name of the school she works for. Natalie also has been quoted saying she stands by her comments.
Story Update:
Natalie Munroe is currently on maternity leave (scheduled) and was scheduled to report back to work in the fall. A school board meeting was held on Tuesday to publicly address the issue, and let's just say it doesn't look good for Natalie Munroe.
Superintendent, Robert Laws, was quoted saying "Ms. Munroe, by her own actions, has made it impossible for her to teach in this district," and, "No student should be subjected to such a hostile educational environment."
In addition, School board member, Stephen Corr, expressed that the media should concentrate on paying attention to the stuff going on in the district and, "less attention to the immature Internet rants of an inexperienced young woman who has spent less than eight semesters in a classroom."
Tell us how you really feel Mr. Corr. Jeez! How can you sit there and judge a teacher for speaking her mind, which we all know that a big percentage of the youth is exactly what Mrs. Munroe said, and then sit there and bash her on a NATIONAL LEVEL! That's crazy!
I'm not sure where I am on this one. A part of me knows what she did is wrong, but on the other hand, is it really that bad? Plus, isn't there freedom of speech in this country anymore?
What do you guys think? Is she getting what she deserves?
Chub Out!
