"If the shirt is the problem I will replace the shirt for you." That's the reply a mother received from her son's second grade teacher after the teacher had stapled a disciplinary note to her son's shirt.
According to the story a teacher stapled a disciplinary note to her student's shirt in order to guarantee that it would make it home to his parents. Numerous notes about the child's behavior had been sent to his home in the past, yet there wasn't any change in the child's behavior. The teacher then assumed the notes were not reaching their destination. So, the teacher decided she was going to staple the note to the stundent's shirt.
The note caused the child to get ridiculed by other students or as described by the boy's mother, "humiliated." When confronting the teacher on her actions the mother was seeking an apology from the teacher for humiliating her son: Her reply was, "If the shirt is the problem I will replace the shirt for you."
I say Kudos to the teacher for not apologizing! That's the problem with these kids today. No one wants to discipline them. Remember the old saying, "it takes a village to raise a child!" Well let the dam village do their job. While watching the video footage of the mother being interviewed; I was floored when she said that the other notes did reach her (Hello then why is your son still acting like a dumbass?). If she knew her son was having problem at school, maybe she should have took some initiative to find out why. That's what I would have done.
Either way, I hope this teacher doesn't suffer any ramifications for her actions (I think they were completely justified). All she was doing was trying to relay a message to a parent who obviously didn't act on the previous messages. Some parents need to realize that teachers are there to educate, not babysit. If you don't want your kids being disciplined by others then handle your business!
