Now we have to worry about Pirates?
Four Americans were shot and killed by Somali pirates off the coast of East Africa on today. As ridiculous as the story might sound, it seems like events like these are becoming a bit more popular amongst news headlines. According to the story this is the first time that Americans were killed in a pirate attack, but the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean have been under pirate attacks for years.
The yacht was actually being followed by four U.S. warships, whom after hearing gunshots coming from the yacht boarded the vessel but were too late to save the four individuals. One pirate was actually killed with a knife by a member of a U.S. special operations force. The violence was initiated when an RPG was launched at the USS Sterett. There wasn't any damage done to the ship.
At the end of the day four innocent people were dead, as well as two pirates who were killed during the overtake of the yacht. Additionally, 13 pirates are now in custody, which I only assume will be held accountable for their actions.
The true question is where do we go from here? This is total B.S. if you ask me. Incidents like this should not occur anymore. The open waters should be better protected against pirates or individuals like them.
